AI Leap and ITL Launch Collaboration to Support the Responsible Use of AI in Schools

2. December 2025

AI Leap signed a cooperation framework agreement with the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL) on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The aim of the collaboration is to strengthen the contribution of Estonia’s leading technology companies in bringing artificial intelligence responsibly into schools and supporting the next generation’s learning skills and creativity.
Just as the success of Estonia’s digital state has been built through cooperation between the public and private sectors, the AI Leap education program also needs support from companies. The agreement with ITL creates an opportunity for experts in the technology sector to contribute to the development of AI Leap financially, as well as through knowledge and technological resources.

“This is an important milestone that reinforces the role of the technology sector in helping Estonia’s young people become skilled users and creators of AI,” said AI Leap CEO Ivo Visak. “We are working together to ensure that students learn to think with AI, not delegate their thinking to machines.”

ITL’s CEO Doris Põld added that the meaningful use of AI is a key issue for Estonia’s future and economic competitiveness, and that schools, teachers, and the technology sector must support one another.
“For us, it is essential that AI does not increase inequality and that young people and teachers have equal access to smart tools whose use in schools is responsible and forward-looking,” Põld noted.

Põld emphasized that implementing meaningful change requires contributions from the private sector alongside the state, and that the partnership between ITL and AI Leap gives experts an opportunity to contribute their knowledge, time, and experience.

AI Leap is an education innovation program initiated by President Alar Karis to support meaningful learning and help the education system adapt to the age of artificial intelligence. Half of the funding needed for the pilot year is provided by the Ministry of Education and Research, while the other half must be raised from private-sector contributions. Among the early strategic supporters of AI Leap are Telia Eesti, Skaala Impact, Smart Future Fund, as well as several private entrepreneurs.
